This week marks the start of Arthritis Awareness Week. An initiative by Arthritis Australia, Arthritis Awareness Week is Australia's annual event to raise community awareness of musculoskeletal conditions.
Arthritis is an extremely common condition in Australia, affecting 1 in 5 people of all ages and from all walks of life. Arthritis does not discriminate and it is not just a problem older people face it affects people of all ages, even children. With that considered, 60% of Australians with arthritis and other muscle, bone and joint conditions are in their prime working age 25 64 years. There are over 120 different types of arthritis that affect people in different ways, but all frequently result in pain, joint stiffness and reduced mobility.
This year, Arthritis Awareness Week is focusing on their 10,000 Step Challenge, Time to Move. This campaign aims to help raise awareness and much needed funds for arthritis by challenging you to take on the venture of walking 10,000 steps each day for 7 days. 10,000 steps a day is the recommended amount of steps we should each be walking each day to keep ourselves fit and healthy. Walk 10,000 steps each day, wherever you are. Whether its at work, on the way to the office, or walking at the end of the day its simple and anyone can take part!
